This article on the BBC News site will come of no surprise to those of us living in France where we are completely at the mercy of EDF’s monopoly position.
I have no idea how they have made inroads into international power supply – when only a little research in France would have un-earthed their shortcomings and ‘interesting’ practises.
I miss next to nothing about the UK, but the regulatory bodies like Ofgem, Oftel etc. serve a very useful purpose for focussing company’s minds on the importance of the consumer.
EDF in France provide a service level that would be deemed wholly un-acceptable in the UK. It would be wonderful to see them penalised frequently in Britain to the point where there was a realisation that the service level necessary abroad could, and should, be mirrored in their home territory,
So…I was looking through my Google webmaster stats, and noticed that a few small Flash animations on a client’s site had been crawled and analysed - with key text words picked up. Interesting – so I had a look around, and yes, for those who use Flash more heavily than, hitherto, was advisable it is very good news, in SEO terms.
Tie this in with Adobe working closely with Google on their new OS and things begin to add up.
Now this BBC item is a bit of a classic – perhaps if managers earning £61k per month had been a little more competent, there wouldn’t have been a situation where this, bizarre, request were necessary. BA has, seemingly lurched from crisis to crisis over the last few years – and all of them, from an outsider’s perspective, would seem to be attributable to complacency of management.

Contrast this with another BBC News article and you can see the disparity between a commercially minded company and…well…British Airways.
